I just opened up my HDR to examine the contents and found some veeerrry interesting things... There are four "discrepancies" when I compare my HDR to the one in the pic below. I described the discrepancies and used arrows to point where there refer to:
Will this put a dent in my experiments???
Well...according to HDRkid's page:
"I think that the crucial component is the bifiliar winding or Caduceus coil. Steven Gibbs says that the bifiliar winding on an HDR unit must be exactly 8.1 centimeters for it to work right. According to Steven Gibbs if the bifiliar winding on the HDR is 8.2 centimeters the HDR will work only one in five times."

Given that there is just copper wire sloppily wound into a spiral where the caduceus coil should be, I think that might impact somethings. I will still continue experiments - only now I will also be experimenting with the coil or winding configuration.
I am familiar with different coil configurations for used for alternate tech & crystal work, so hopefully that will come in handy. I will attempt to make my own [insert explicitive here] caduceus coil , and also see about getting a new 1k capacitor, as well as reconfigure the rectifier diodes into a circular pattern. Due to the limits of technology in this current timeline, you can't actually hear me at this moment. Perhaps this will surfice:
